Yeah, I’m On the PRowl
Because we all need extra reading, right?
My friend Maria Thurrell (@MaThurrell) and I are co-authoring a blog about the experiences we’re going through as PR students transitioning to the “real world” in the industry. On the PRowl started as a project for our New Media for Public Relations class in Boston University’s College of Communication, but we are kind of loving it, so we plan to continue writing after the semester ends.
Let us know what you think, and put On the PRowl on your radar if you want to know what’s going on with us young ladies. Oh, and um, favorite us on Technorati and show us some link love to boost our grade! (I have no shame. Oh well.)

My Social Media Thanksgiving with Auntie Sue
So, I wasn’t subtle at all about wanting my family to participate in my Social Media Thanksgiving this year. Auntie Sue (who was mentioned in my recent Utter) was really excited about my presence on the Web and wasn’t shy about making an Utter with me after we ate turkey, stuffing and mashies.
The best part of the following Utter is how much we’re giggling at the end. That’s what family means to me during the holidays. The times when you just get so silly that you can’t stop laughing at each other. Luckily, I caught some of it in my Utter and on my camera. (Pictures and video will follow once I get back to Boston.)
Love this holiday.
Happy Thanksgiving!
I’m hoping to create some content this year at the table with my family, so this could turn into a Social Media Thanksgiving for me and Social Honeycomb. Before I scramble to pack for home and power down, I wanted to wish everyone a happy, fun, safe holiday tomorrow. I truly hope that you have many things to be thankful for this year, and that you remind yourself of all your blessings often–not just on Thanksgiving. So, eat some delicious food, make some holiday memories and have a wonderful Turkey Day.
Oh, and just in case you wanted to know what my favorite and least favorite parts of Thanksgiving are, listen below:

Help Me Raise Money for Susan G. Komen
As some of you know, I am a specialty choreographer for the senior company at The Dance Place, Inc. in Worcester, Mass. Every year in November, the studio puts on a beautiful show to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This year, I have taken it upon myself to go a step further for my dancers and the foundation.
I have been secretly visiting the studio each Sunday for the past two months and creating a surprise dance piece to give as a gift to the owner of The Dance Place. She’s had a few rough patches over the past couple years and we wanted to remind her that she has a strong, caring family of dancers who love her to pieces.
While I am not asking any of you to attend the show on Friday, I am asking you for any help you can provide as a donation to our cause. As a group, we want to present a combined check to our studio director at the finale of the benefit, and anything you can do will help us make a difference. Please Thank you so much for your support- it means the world to us.
Questions to Consider
Brian Solis recently participated (with Doug Haslam, Marshall Kirkpatrick, Cathryn Hrudicka and Marc Orchant) in one of Aaron Brazell’s roundtable discussions about Social Media and PR.
Visit the Technosailor blog to read more about the questions and discussion. This is very relevant and interesting stuff. Tell your coworkers.

Just a Girl on the Web…
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about gender and how this particular social construction influences different parts of my life.
I know plenty of girls who participate in online conversations and use the Web to express themselves. To me, this raises some interesting questions: What place does femininity have in the conversations on the Web? What does it mean to be a woman in social conversation?
Wanna talk about this? I want some perspectives- men and women of the Web, what do you think?

Will Twitter Respond?
So, I got some really nice responses from my social media buddies about my Halloween costume. Chris Penn took it one step further, though, suggesting that I ask Twitter to replace the little blue bird with one of my photos and a “bring that beat back!” type of message.
I emailed pr[at]twitter.com yesterday and haven’t gotten a response, but I’m holding on to the hope that I could someday be that little bird, telling everyone that Twitter is going to be OK. A girl can dream…
If you want me as your new Twitter bird, maybe you could drop them an email, too. Either way, it’s a fun thought. While you’re at it, tell Johnny Cupcakes to sponsor Julia Roy as well. The girl needs a new tee.

This One Time, I Was Twitter for Halloween…
Dear Everyone,
Hope you had a great Halloween 2007!
With love,
The Twitter Bird
